In the Middle of the Rain

In the Middle of the Rain

Despite all the rain we've been getting lately, Sam and I keep finding exciting things to celebrate around the MinIsland.

Our garden is growing wonderfully and probably loving all the rain! We have 19 different types of crops growing--most of them peppers. We still have cucumbers, zucchini, onions, shallots, and garlic to plant. The onions probably won't be ready until the fall since we waited so long to plant them. We shall see.

We found this little guy driving home from church a couple weeks ago. He was sitting in the middle of the gravel road we live on, and Sam and I stopped to rescue him and admire his cuteness.

Aaaand.....we got more chicks! That brings us to a total of ten (if you count the sick chick). These are bantam Miller Fleur d'Uccle. Bantam chickens are typically smaller than regular chickens, and this particular variety will lay small cream colored eggs. You probably can't see the feathers on their feet, but you may be able to make out their poofy cheeks and beards coming in! We are keeping them in the coop until this weekend and then letting them out with the other chickens to free-range. The lady we got them in had them free-ranging in her yard practically from the start. So they should be good to go. We just have to keep the cats inside for a couple of weeks until all of our chicks get big enough to be able to defend themselves from the little hunters:)

I also started trying to cut out the layers needed to make Trulee's petticoat to go under her wedding dress. I spent probably forty-five minutes cutting and only finished half of one of the three strips that I have to cut out. Trying to get tulle to behave is impossible!
